Part 1

To enable students to express understanding of the value of effective speech communication in their personal, academic and professional undertakings:

Throughout the semester we, the students, have been learning to better develop our skills to deliver a speech correctly.  From the start to the end of the class we were given the tools that would help us deliver a speech as were suppose to and I feel for the most that I was able to improve my speaking skills.  Speaking is a major thing a person needs in life.  Whether it’s an interview, debate, presentation, etc. they all require the person to know what they’re talking about or persuade them on why they should have the job or why it should be the way think. Without knowing how to outline your ideas or set those up correctly can affect your speech and how to present it.

To be able to apply the fundamental principles of effective speech communication;

Fundamental principles are what I believe help people believe in what you’re talking about. When using good eye contact it shows that that person knows that you did your research on the topic you talking about and you’re just using the power point as a backup. Also the tone of voice that a person uses also betters the speech as you present your topic help gets the point across of what you’re talking about.

To overcome and transform any fears, anxiety or nervousness in public speaking into a positive driving force towards achieving communication and leadership skills that are vital to one’s personal, academic and career goals;

            When it comes to the nervousness it can affect your speech and not make it sound as powerful as you may want it to. I believe that my nervousness has improved tremendously. I have told that my information is good and I can present it well it’s just the nervousness that prevents my speech to be that much better. I don’t believe that I have overcame all my nervousness just yet but I believe that I major improvement this semester when delivering my speeches.

To demonstrate fundamental skills in gathering information or supporting proofs or evidences, organizing and presentation of one’s ideas in clear, logical, creative, purposeful and effective manner before an audience;

            I believe that the outline is the best thing that fits the characteristics that make your speech perfect. The way the outline is set up is basically sets up all the ideas and how to present the speech. The follow up to present this information is to use power point to deliver the outline best. It makes it easier to transfer all the information from the outline to your power point and the creative aspect is up to the presenter. They are the ones that have to make to speech interesting and intriguing to want to listen more and stayed focus on the topic.

To identify different types of speeches for different occasions, contexts, purposes and scenarios;

In the first half of the semester we were exposed to about 5-7 speeches. We were shown how to identify the speeches by the topic and listening to what the speech is. We were shown videos on youtube to learn how these speeches work and developed, and we had examples of doing three of those speeches which were informative, persuasive and narrative.

To manifest skills in developing and delivering informative, persuasive and any other types of speeches before an audience; and,

In the process of doing both an informative and persuasive speech it helped me do research on a speech and also helped me learn how to set up my speech correctly. Also delivering these speeches help me better my speaking skills and showed me how to better my eye contact, and use of voice depending on what speech I’m doing.

To execute effective leadership, team working or collaborative skills that should always come along with the development of effective communication skills;

The way that we did team working is during class when we had group activities to do in class.  We learned how to work with one another and learned how to all contribute to what we were doing and instead one person being a leader, we all were.

 Part 2

What factors on your part as a student have helped you in achieving the learning objectives and any other development from the course (such as your own efforts given to the course, work ethics, dedication, diligence, determination personal goals, drive and enthusiasm, unavoidable, unexpected  circumstances)? Please, explain.

What I learned is to not be afraid to better yourself. At first when I figured out that I had to take a speech class I was terrified because I would never attempt to talk in front in the class let alone raise my hand to answer a question. This class helped me to have confidence to express what I feel about certain things and to start not being afraid to give my opinion on things.

What factors on the part of the instructor helped you in achieving the course objectives? (i.e., instructor’s teaching style, knowledge, professionalism, course materials; required tasks, communication style, attitude, etc.)

I always was nervous because I didn’t want people to judge me, but after having to take the class it helped me to get better my communication with other people. It help me to have diligence to never give up and work at something that I thought I was never good at, to being better than I expected. Also I learned about things I never thought of threw my speeches. It helped me to be good at research and finding topics that are part of our world today. So I feel that being in this class and having to participate and do speeches helped me better myself.

What inner transformations, ethical and personal values, traits and personality development have you gained through the course of your learning in this class?

I believed that I gained a lot from this class. I learned that I cannot be afraid to put input about something. I learned that I am a good speaker, and that I know how to develop my information well. Also the fact that I have more confidence to speck about something I know about helps me a lot. I feel that I will always be nervous in the beginning of presenting a speech but once I get used to talking and seeing the speech as a conversation with my friends I will be relaxed and present good.

If you are to describe your overall experience in this course, how will you describe your experience? Why?

I loved my experience in this class. It helped me believe in myself when talking to a group of people. It showed me that I was good at giving speeches just was scared to be in front of the class. This class gave me confidence to express the knowledge that I have and not to worry about what people are going to think of me, just to give your input no matter what because it could help someone else.

Comments/Suggestions

I feel that you shouldn’t let people to you with so many excuses to hand things in late. You have been a professional and giving all the work and tools necessary to get everything completed in this class. No one has really an excuse to give you because you always give us a heads up in class on what we have to do and when you are going to send it to you. Don’t let students take control and don’t let them upset you. You have been doing what you have to this whole semester and that is teach us to become better speakers and I believe I have thanks to your class.
